PRAISE

Suzette chose to embark on her journey with her spirit and heart leading.
She will surely inspire others to find their way through
the challenges confronting them by following the light that shines,
even in the darkest moments. She is a testimony to ‘coming home’
to the stillness within and that we have the ability to move beyond our fears
and open up to all possibilities.

-Cheryl Canfield
Author of Profound Healing: Acceptance on the Path to Wellness

Suzette’s book is a guide through cancerland. It is only the courageous natives who have experienced the journey who can show us the way. These lessons are too often not learned until disaster strikes. So read on and be prepared for your journey and the bumps along the road of life.

“Suzette Hodnett has written a wise and warm book about her cancer journey.  She provides an unflinching account of what her body has experienced, and how she lives through it with grace and courage.  She is both mindful and thoughtful, combining Eastern tradition (as a tai chi instructor) with the Western existential notion (Viktor Frankl) that facing threats to life helps one to savor how precious it is.  With the help of her friends and her cat Tattoo,
she opens her heart to those walking a similar path.”

     -Dr. David Spiegel,
Wilson Professor & Associate Chair of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences,
               Stanford University School of Medicine

Suzette's book is an inspiring and shining light illuminating the power of love, faith, gratitude, meaning, and stillness in facing cancer - or any life challenge.  She shares her heartfelt
reflections and wisdom, offering us a compass for healing. Moment by moment, breath
by breath, she opens her heart and says yes to life, and finds the pearls within the seemingly
hardened shells along life's path.

I have had the privilege of treating cancer patients at a national academic cancer center, and I have witnessed patients and their families navigate through their diagnoses and treatments. Each of these journeys is characterized by the patient's unique personality, life experiences, support system and world view.

From the moment Suzette and I first discussed her diagnosis of cancer, it has been evident
to me that she has an immense capacity for love, beauty and tranquility. She is an extremely talented and accomplished artist and as such has developed the skill of
expression which has led to the creation of this book.

Suzette describes eloquently the fresh perspective of embracing the journey with peace. Her peace does not emanate from accepting her diagnosis with passivity, as she has been intimately involved in understanding, researching and pursuing the best treatment options. Rather it removes the pressure related to the often binary view of cancer treatment, resulting in either remission or relapse. This outlook will undoubtedly help cancer patients find peace in an otherwise tumultuous period, and I am proud to have been involved in her care.
I look forward to reading of the lives helped by this insightful book.
